In mid-2018, Alan Pulverness conducted a comprehensive review of the syllabus for a British Council flagship global product for adult learners. This was a non-linear, four-level set of teaching materials with 120 lessons at each level in theme-based blocks of 4 lessons. The syllabus had been developed in separate versions by British Council teacher-writers in East Asia and Europe, as well as an overarching global version, and our brief was to identify ways of aligning these different versions, to make proposals for strengthening and unifying the syllabus, and for enhancing a new digital version. In the wake of our experience with the Upper Secondary Plus syllabus, this project gave us the opportunity to make a significant contribution to another innovative British Council product.
