Rwanda – Content writing for face-to-face (intensive) English courses for secondary teachers

Rwanda

This project is part of the larger STELIR project and involved designing materials for face-to-face intensive courses for secondary teachers at CEFR A1, A2 and B2 levels. Three courses were developed:

  • Adaptation of existing A1 level intensive course of 60
  • Development of an existing A2 level intensive course of 30
  • Development of a new B1 level intensive course of 30 hours

The STELIR project aims to achieve a sustainable change in the Rwandan education system by creating training materials for the Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB) and by developing a cadre of local English Teacher Trainers (both face to face trainers and e-Teacher/ Moderators) who can deliver ongoing training after the project has ended and could train others to take on their roles. The aim is that the materials and associated methodologies will be adopted and embedded in the pre-service teacher training courses at the University of Rwanda College of Education (URCE), which will be championed and driven forward after the project has ended by the URCE English teacher trainers who the project will recruit from the current tutors and who will have delivered the English teaching there during the project.
