As part of a community outreach effort, we are very excited to have sponsored a team of young scientists to design, build and race an electric car from scratch. The team of 14 are from University Technical College, Norwich (UTCN). The resulting vehicle, constructed during the students’ free time, reached the National Qualifiers final and was raced at the Lotus test track in Norfolk, in June 2019. The competition was organised by the Green Power Education Trust, which inspires young people around the world to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths through this unique challenge. For TransformELT, this project connected us to the local school and business community, proactively involved us in an environmental project promoting electric car use and sustainability, supported local students in developing their science, maths and engineering skills through a project-based learning mode, which also strengthened their team working and communication skills.
